Do you have knowledge about adult finances that you can share and about 3 hours to spare on May 10th? You can help an Ilwaco High School student learn about life!
Fibre Federal Credit Union and TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, are partnering to host a financial education event at Ilwaco High School on May 10. We call this our “Financial Reality Fair”, and we could use the help of some locals to bring this all together!
A financial reality fair is a hands-on budgeting simulation that lets high school students test-drive their future finances. The journey begins with each student selecting the career they are interested in pursuing post- high school. When students arrive to the fair, they are given the appropriate income, tax, and student loan information for this career, and are randomly assigned a credit score. Armed with this information, they get to shop for housing, transportation, entertainment, food, and other categories of “life’s necessities”, while also taking a turn on the “Wheel of Reality” to see what extra challenges or windfalls may come their way. Students will also meet one-on-one with a financial coach, who will review their decision making and offer advice on future real money choices. The reality fair helps schools and students meet several of Washington State’s financial education standards.
We are looking for about 15 people who could join us from 12:30pm to 3pm on Thursday, May 10 at the high school to help us “staff” the fair. If you have a contact list, or if you could share this on your Facebook page, I would really appreciate it! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
