Ilwaco, WA – An open house hosted by the Port of Ilwaco, the City of Ilwaco, and the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership will present stormwater treatment solutions for the Baker Bay Stormwater Project. The $2.2 million project aims to deliver cleaner water to Baker Bay through the installation of stormwater infrastructure at the Port’s Howerton Avenue parking lot and along Howerton Avenue. The project is completely funded by a grant from the Washington Department of Ecology and the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership. Construction is slated to begin in 2024.
Currently more than 40 storm drains convey stormwater directly to Baker Bay. Stormwater runoff from parking lots and roads often contain oils, greases, and toxic contaminants that can harm water quality and impact fish and wildlife health.
