Ilwaco Fire Chief Appointment

I'm pleased to announce the selection of Jonathon Brown to serve as the City of Ilwaco's next Fire Chief, with his appointment to take effect following completion of the required procedures and background checks.

Following an open application and interview process, and careful consideration of each candidate's qualifications, experience, and approach to leadership, I believe Chief Brown brings the knowledge and direction needed to best lead our Fire Department into its next chapter.

Chief Brown has an extensive background in both fire and emergency medical services, including volunteer firefighting, emergency operations, training, and departmental leadership. Throughout our conversations, I was particularly impressed by his approach to developing personnel, supporting volunteers, and establishing the structure and accountability necessary for a strong and dependable department.

This appointment represents an important step forward, but it's also just the beginning of the work ahead. Our priorities remain strengthening our volunteer roster, improving training and operational readiness, further developing future leaders within the department, and continuing to rebuild the trust and confidence of our community.

I had the pleasure of introducing Chief Brown to department members at Wednesday's drill, as beginning this transition with those who continue to dedicate their time to serving Ilwaco is very important to me. I have the utmost respect and gratitude for their commitment and will continue to make supporting our volunteers a priority.

I've also greatly appreciated the insight and support former Fire Chief Tom Williams has shared from his many years of service to Ilwaco. I believe his knowledge of the department, its history, and our community can be a valuable resource as we move forward under Chief Brown's leadership.

Chief Brown will have my full support as Mayor, and I'm committed to working closely with him, our volunteers, City leadership, and our regional partners to establish a stronger, more connected, and sustainable future for the Ilwaco Fire Department and our community.

I encourage everyone to join us at our upcoming City Council meeting on Monday, November 9, at 6:00 p.m. in the Ilwaco Community Building, where we'll formally introduce Chief Brown to the community.
